This is a copy of an email I sent to mom. I'd like everyone's input.

I am the room mom for Tristan's class. As such, I am in charge of the Halloween party. I think it's supposed to last about an hour. I asked the teacher today what she wanted. She said she didn't care. I think an activity, a craft and a snack? She said she had Halloween bingo we could play with candy corn if I wanted to do that.

I'm asking you to tap into your vast in-school party experience and come up with some good ideas.

I also have to decorate the door for red ribbon week. The theme is, "Country Hills Students Live Positive."

Really? Positive? Shouldn't it be positively? You know... an adverb describing a verb.

What the heck am I supposed to do with that? Miss Lutes said she could have the kids write ways that they are living positively and we could put them on the door. I'm thinking of doing leaves and the kids could write on the leaves and we could say, "Miss Lutes' class leaves drugs behind and lives positively!" eh eh... get it...leaves...

I get it....
We did a party where the kids have a relay race - they run to the bowl full of candy and get to use tongs and run back to their bags. You time them and so everyone wins

I'm sorry to report that the only halloween party I remember from school featured frosting cupcakes and then decorating them with candy corn. While this doesn't give you many ideas of what you can do, the upside is that even if it's awful and boring, the kids won't remember. Also, I'm disappointed at the lack of grammar at that school. Positive... really?

Also, how does one become room mom? Did you campaign, or were they desperate to give the job to someone?
